At least 20 people are reported to have been killed and 200 others hurt by an earthquake in southern Rwanda. The quake measured five on the Richter scale in the western Great Rift valley.

Local police say the number of dead could rise as many people are trapped. They say rescue efforts are now underway in the region, where earthquakes are relatively common.
