Hispanics key to Super Tuesday voting

The two remaining Democrat candidates are gearing up for next week’s bumper voting in more than 20 US states on Super Tuesday. While Barack Obama’s bid has raised the electoral profile of African-Americans, focus is now falling on another community with a key role to play.

Large numbers of Latino voters will cast their ballots on Super Tuesday in states such as California, New York, New Jersey, Arizona and New Mexico, where polls put Hillary Clinton ahead in the contest for her party’s nomination.

Analysts say part of her appeal to the Hispanic population is down to her husband’s popularity as president, when he appointed hundreds of Latinos to federal posts.
