It is believed all 19 Polish air force officers onboard a military plane that crashed on the way back from a conference have been killed. Emergency services scoured the area where the wrecked plane burst into flames, saying it was unlikely there were any survivors. It was on its way from the capital Warsaw and came down just before reaching the runway at the military airport of Miroslawiec.

Polish prime minister Donald Tusk, who visited the scene of the crash, said an investigation was underway into what happened and the families of the victims were receiving psychological assistance. In a cruel twist of fate, the Spanish-made CASA 295M aircraft was carrying officers on their way home from an aviation safety meeting in the capital.
