Yachtsman Joyon sets solo record

world news

| |

Frenchman Francis Joyon has smashed Britain’s Ellen MacArthur’s record for sailing solo round the world by a staggering two weeks.

51 year old Joyon completed the circumnavigation in 57 days, 13 hours, 34 minutes and 6 seconds.

On his own, Joyon skirted the southern reaches of the globe in his 29-metre, 9-ton trimaran IDEC, sleeping only in short spells and grappling with fierce winds and a damaged mast.
