It was all smiles in the Clinton household but despite yesterday’s victory in Nevada, the former first couple know they are still a long way from a return to the White House. The state’s electorate backed her to be the Democrats candidate in what was an important win at an early stage of the race: “I just want to say how grateful I am to Nevada and all of the people and all of the people who worked so hard in this campaign,” she told her supporters.
It was a significant if not devastating margin of victory over Barak Obama. John Edwards poor third placing augurs badly for his campaign. Obama had the backing of powerful unions in Nevada. But Clinton is believed to have polled well among women and Hispanic voters. Obama will be expecting to bounce back in the next round of Democrat voting in South Carolina on Saturday.
