Golden Globes hit by writers' strike

An on-going strike by Hollywood writers has claimed another high-profile casualty. Organizers of this year’s Golden Globe Awards are scrapping their traditional gala ceremony. They have instead decided to go ahead with what is being described as an hour-long press conference.

Strike action by members of the Writers Guild of America is now into its ninth week in a dispute over pay. The walkout has already seriously affected TV series and movie projects. The Golden Globes are as eagerly awaited as the Oscars, and are normally just as rich in glamour and glitz.

But it seems most nominees and presenters would have been unwilling to cross a writers’ picket line.
