With the “Lead Market Initiative” (LMI), the European Commission aims to speed up development of fast-growing products and services in six areas: eHealth, protective textiles, sustainable construction, recycling, bio-based products and renewable energies.
Brussels considers these areas among the most innovative, and responsive to customers’ needs. They have a strong technological and industrial base in Europe and depend more than other markets on the creation of favourable framework conditions through public policy actions.
The LMI identifies promising emerging markets for support, and sets out to streamline the legal and regulatory environments. The goal is to boost demand, faster, and maximise market potential.
