Barak Obama, the Democrat senator from Illinois, has emerged the clear winner for the Democrats in the Iowa caucus, the first event in the 2008 US presidential campaign. Obama beat out Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. Afterwards, Obama spoke of his pride in his victory.
“You have done what the state of New Hampshire can do in 5 days, you have done what America can do in this new year 2008…”
Obama’s campaign theme of change clearly resonated with Iowa Democratic voters.
“In lines that stretched around the schools and churches, in small towns and big cities, you came together as Democrats, Republicans and Independents to stand up and say that we are one nation, we are one people and the time for change has come.”
Presidential hopefuls will now contest the New Hampshire primary which takes place on Tuesday in a continuing campaign to secure the Democrat presidential nomination.
