Iowa marks the official start of presidential race


The US presidential hopefuls make their final pleas for votes among party members in Iowa, before the country’s primary elections begin on Thursday. Hillary Clinton is one of three Democrat candidates hoping to win the first of these state-by-state battles. They will decide who becomes each party’s official candidate for elections in November.

Illinois senator Barack Obama is hoping to be the US’s first black president. Latest polls in Iowa suggest that Clinton and Obama are tied on 28 percent support, with former North Carolina senator, John Edwards just behind.
