A state funeral has been held in Madrid for one of the two police officers allegedly killed by ETA suspects in southern France last weekend.
The country’s King and Queen, as well as members of the government and opposition, were present at the service for Fernando Trapero Blazquez.
He died on Wednesday from gunshot wounds. The other officer killed, Raul Centeno, was given a state funeral earlier this week.
The two civil guards were taking part in a joint surveillance operation by French and Spanish police when they were shot.
It is reported the officers ran into three ETA suspects at a café in the resort town of Capbreton.
Two suspects, a woman and a man, have since been arrested by French police.
If the ETA involvement is confirmed, it would be the first killings by the armed Basque separatist group since calling off a 15-month ceasefire in June.
