Germany and France in tune over EU integration

European integration may seem an unlikely topic for a song and the French and German Foreign Ministers might not be everyone’s first choice as vocalists but that is what has happened in Berlin. Bernard Kouchner and Frank Walter Steinmeier recorded “Deutschland” in a studio in Berlin, on the sidelines of a Franco-German summit in the German capital.

Soon available on, the song was written by the German-Turkish artist Muhabbet, who also supervised the recording. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, along with the foreign ministers, held talks on European integration and harmony.

France and Germany are home to large immigrant populations, and the two leaders were keen to celebrate that diversity.
