Police are still trying to piece together the events surrounding yesterday’s school shooting in Finland. The killings have sent a shock-wave through the country, which rarely makes world headlines in such a way. There’s deep alarm in the Finnish media, because such violence has been almost unknown, until now.

President Tarja Halonen has sent her sympathies to the victims’ families, and Prime Minister Matti Vanhannen said the tragedy had shattered Finland’s long-running sense of safety and security.
