Swiss reflect on political change after election

Christophe Blocher’s image dominated the front pages as Switzerland digested the election result. Some newspapers speculated on the direction the country would take.

On the streets of Geneva people spoke of change: “Maybe things will change. You never know, maybe things will start moving,” said one woman.

Another man blamed the left for the SVP’s victory: “It’s the left-wing that really who paved the way for the SVP. Their ridiculous attacks, without giving any programme or anything, they played their (SVP’s) game wonderfully. I think Blocher should give them two or three million for participating in their electoral campaign.”

Parliament will decide the make-up of the seven-member ruling executive in mid-December.
