Several Hollywood celebrities are feeling the heat in the face of wildfires devastating large areas of Malibu. Thousands of local residents have been evacuated from the area just north of Los Angeles as the flames threatened to engulf their homes. The coastal strip is home to many well-known personalities from stage and screen, including Barbara Streisand and Mel Gibson, as well as more ordinary residents, like Robert Wolf:
“We’ve been watching the fire the last couple of hours and we decided it was not going in our direction, so we went back to sleep and then the sheriffs came and told us all to evacuate.”
1,500 firefighters are tackling the blaze which has also consumed the famous landmark Castle Kashan. The fire is thought to have been started by a power cable blown down in high winds. There have been no reports so far of any deaths or injuries in Malibu, although one person died and four firefighters were injured in another blaze near San Diego.
