This weekend’s general election in Switzerland is very much a black and white affair. On the one side there is what some see as the blatantly racist campaign of the leading SVP Swiss People’s Party. It has called for certain immigrants to be kicked out of the country.

On the other side stand the Greens, Social Democrats and Radicals, watching the overtly nationalist rhetoric win votes. The SVP is predicted to increase its vote share to around 27 per cent, boosting the party’s seats in the federal parliament.

Initial results of the weekend-long ballot are expected this afternoon.
