There has been a deadly helicopter crash during a visit to Kashmir by Pakistan’s president. Four soldiers were killed when their aircraft fell from the sky. Pervez Musharraf had travelled ahead in another chopper and escaped unhurt.

An army spokesman said a technical fault was behind the crash, ruling out a militant attack.
The Pakistani leader has survived several assassination attempts.

The president landed safely at Muzaffarabad, on a trip marking the second anniversary of a massive earthquake in the region.

He is still waiting for a Supreme Court ruling on the legality of his contested re-election at the weekend.

The tribunal will decide whether he was eligible to stand while still the country’s army chief. It is a role he has promised to quit, but only if his re-election is confirmed.
