Olympic champion Marion Jones admits using steroids

Triple Olympic champion Marion Jones has admitted using steroids ahead of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. That’s according to the US newspaper The Washington Post which also says she plans to plead guilty to lying about her drug use in a New York court later today.

Until now, Jones has always denied using any kind of drugs: “I have never, ever used performance-enhancing drugs and I have accomplished what I have accomplished because of my God-given abilitues and hard work,” she said in 2004.

Jones reportedly says she took the steroid known as “the clear” for two years from 1999. She claims they were given to her by her coach who said it was a nutritional supplement. Jones, who was the first woman to win five athletics medals at a single Olympics, faces losing the prizes. She has reportedly said she expects to be jailed for three months for lying to federal agents.
