Two Italian soldiers kidnapped in western Afghanistan on Saturday have been freed in a NATO-led raid. Both were wounded in the operation, and were taken to hospital.
Italy has some 2,000 troops based in Afghanistan, 600 of whom run the regional NATO-led force in the west.
There are conflicting reports regarding the identity and the fate of their abductors – it’s reported at least seven were killed in the raid.
