War of words: Israel denies bombing Syria

world news

| |

Israel and Syria are locked in a war of words, over claims that Israeli warplanes attacked Syria last night. Damascus said its gunners had fired back at the planes. The Israeli government and army declined to comment officially, but Israel Radio, quoting military sources, said the incident never happened.

Israel has long warned Damascus to stop supporting Palestinian and Lebanese terror groups, and bombed an empty training bunker inside Syria in 2003. The two countries are technically still at war, following Israel’s seizure of the Golan Heights in 1967.
