The hunt for suspected terrorists in Germany is widening. Ten more men have been identified, whom police think provided back-up for the foiled plot to attack targets across the country. The former head of the German secret service, August Hanning, said the gang had supporters at home and abroad who are now being hunted. He said there was a network of Germans, Turks and other nationalities.
Germany has been shocked to learn that the gang had accumulated such vast stocks of bomb-making chemicals and military-grade detonators ready for possible attacks. A series of potential targets has been uncovered. They include the giant US airbase at Ramstein, which is a major hub for American military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It’s believed the three men in custody had trained in Pakistan, and had close links to Al-Qaeda.
