Ailing Italian airliner Alitalia is making changes to its services, in a drastic attempt to resuscitate its fortunes. This follow company loses of more than 1 million euros each day. Following a board meeting, it has decided to cut unprofitable flights. It will also reposition its main hub to Rome Fiumicino, rather than Milan Malpensa, saying it is impossible to maintain two hubs.
Italian newspaper Corriera della Sera reports a threat by Lombardy’s president that if Alitalia penalises Malpensa, he might decide to take back some slots, which could include the lucrative Milan-Rome route.
