Spain mourns death of top author

Spain is mourning the death of one of its best-known contemporary authors. Francisco Umbral has died at the age of 72, in Madrid, from respiratory failure.

Having published some 80 books, he won numerous awards. Among his best known work is A Mortal Spring, The Nymphs, Madrid Trilogy and the Legend of the Visionary Caesar. Umbral was also a journalist and columnist, working for the likes of the newspapers El Pais and El Mundo. Among the awards he received were Cervantes, Premio Nadal and Prince of Asturias prizes.
