The wife of Britain’s Prince Charles says she will not attend a memorial service marking the tenth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. Camilla says she does not want to distract attention from the commemoration of Diana’s life. But she was touched by the invitation by Charles and Prince William and Harry. Charles’ former mistress Camilla is blamed by many for breaking up his marriage to Diana. Opinions among Britons differ on Camilla’s decision not to attend the service: “Well I think she should accompany him, as his wife, and I hope that with this memorial service that she will feel remorse for causing the breakdown in the marriage.”
“No I don’t think so, no. I think it would be very insensitive. I think it’s time just to stay in the background, on that occasion.”
Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on August thirty first, 1997 along with her companion Dodi al-Fayad and the driver. More than thirty members of Britain’s royal family, including Queen Elizabeth are due to attend the service in London on Friday.
