Al Qaeda suspected after new Iraq massacre

world news

| |

The White House has denounced a series of bomb attacks in northern Iraq as barbaric and says the prime suspect is al Qaeda. At least 200 people were killed by four suicide bombers driving fuel tankers yesterday evening in Kahtaniya and neighbouring villages. The area is densely populated by a pre-Islamic Kurdish sect known as the Yazidi, who are considered infidels by Sunni extremists. The death toll could rise to more than 250 as US and Iraqi forces search the rubble.
