A candidate running in the Turkish general election due on July the 22nd has been shot dead in Istanbul. Tuncay Seyranlioglu’s car was peppered with bullets as he left a TV station in the city. It is reported the shots were fired by several gunmen from a black car which then sped off.
Police say they have made arrests in connection with the killing.
The 42-year-old businessman and independent candidate, owned a construction company and a newspaper, and had been hoping to be elected as MP for a district in Istanbul.
However Turkish news agency Dogan alleges that the victim owed money to the assailants.
Three other people in the car were also injured but not seriously.
