Another bomb rocks Pakistani capital

world news

| |

There has been an explosion in the Pakistani capital Islamabad at a court building where the country’s suspended chief justice was due to speak to a rally of lawyers and other supporters calling for his reinstatement. Police said at least eight people were killed and many more injured in what appears to have been a suicide attack..The blast occurred before the suspended chief justice, Iftikhar Chaudhry, arrived at the court.

There have been a number of bombings in Pakistan following last week’s government action against a radical mosque in Islamabad. Chaudhry was suspended in March by President Pervez Musharraf for “abusing his authority”, but opposition politicians say it is part of a move by Musharraf to stay in power after his term of office ends.
