Abkhazian leader hurt in another murder attempt

The prime minister of Abkhazia, Alexander Ankhab, has been slightly wounded in an assassination attempt. It is the fourth time he has been targeted since he took office in February last year. The leader of Georgia’s breakaway republic was hurt when attackers fired a grenade at his car.

The incident took place on a main road to Abkhazia’s capital, Sukhumi. Authorities say he was briefly treated in hospital before returning home. The Russian-backed province on the Black Sea has declared independence but this has not been internationally recognised.
