Out-going UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is to become the official negotiating envoy for the Middle East Quartet – the UN has confirmed the appointment.
The Quartet partners are the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations. Prior to the announcement Blair was asked if the job were to come his way what would be his priority.
The British politician said that it would be to try to give effect to what is now international consensus that a
two-state solution is the way forward to bringing peace and stability to the Middle East.
