There has been a solemn homecoming for six members of a Spanish patrol, killed in southern Lebanon. Spain’s Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Crown Prince Felipe were among those gathered at an air base near Madrid as the peacekeepers remains were returned.

There, too, were relatives of the dead, who were aged between 18 and 21. At the start of a national day of mourning in Spain, a priest paid tribute to the six. Their funerals are taking place today. A car bomb on Sunday claimed their lives. It was the first deadly attack on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon since last year’s war between Israel and Hezbollah.
