A ferocious storm in India’s southern Andhra Pradesh state is believed to have killed up to 100 people. Officials say a major relief operation is now underway with some 56,000 people displaced. Scores of emergency medical teams have also been rushed to the area to contain the spread of water-related diseases.
Storms and monsoon rains are also wreaking havoc across the southern Pakistani city of Karachi. More than 200 people are estimated to have been killed with dozens more injured. Rescue workers say they are facing growing problems reaching the dead and transporting the wounded to hospitals as flooded roads have brought traffic to a standstill in many areas.
