At least 14 people have been wounded in a bomb blast in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The device went off outside a store in the west of the city, shattering windows in nearby shops and offices. The incident occured amid growing worries about Kurdish separatist violence in Turkey in the wake of clashes between Turkish troops and guerrillas of the banned Kurdish separatist party, the PKK.
A recent wave of deadly attacks nationwide has also fuelled fears of further unrest in the run-up to a general election on June 22. According to some sources, the PKK has denied any involvement in the Istanbul explosion.
