Straight from the G8 summit, President George Bush has made a flying visit to Poland for a brief meeting with his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski. The visit was neither formal nor work-related, more of a chance for Bush to put up his feet for a while according to one of Kaczynski’s advisors. But one topic of conversation looks certain to come up before Bush heads on to Rome this evening.
Before the G8 meeting in Germany and before hearing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ideas, Washington was in talks about installing defensive missile interceptors in Poland. The plan was warmly received by Warsaw. Now, analysts say Kaczynski will be wanting to know what Bush thinks of the Russian position concerning the missiles.
