Another test for Italy’s PM

The Italian government of Romano Prodi faces a stiff test today in the Senate and the possibility of another vote of confidence. Roberto Calderoli of the opposition Northern League is to put forward a motion aiming to dig up the truth over alleged interference in a financial police probe.

Deputy Economy Minister Vincenzo Visco has been accused in a right-wing newspaper of pressuring investigators looking into the takeover of a bank with links to the ruling centre-left coalition.
