A Saudi Arabian prisoner at Guantanamo Bay has apparently committed suicide. The detainee was found dead in his cell. The US military has not given any indication as to how he died and has not released his identity. He is the fourth prisoner at Guantanamo to have committed suicide since the camp opened in 2002, and the first since a new commander took over eight days ago.
Amnesty International says it is not surprised by the latest death, given the conditions in which the detainees are held. In the past year, it claims, more and more prisoners have been placed in solitary confinement.
