Romanian film wins top award at Cannes

A hard-hitting Romanian picture has walked away with the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Christian Mungiu, “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” beat 21 other productions competing for the coveted Palme d’Or.

Set in a grey and uncaring Romania towards the end of the communist era, the movie tells the story of student friends who are ruthlessly exploited when one of them goes to have an illegal abortion.
