Israel says Hamas PM could be target of strike

world news

| |

Israel is warning that Hamas leaders, including Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, could become targets for military strikes. The government of Ehud Olmert has decided to step up operations in Gaza in response to Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel in the past week. Among the latest Israeli airstrikes, nine Palestinians were killed overnight in the bombing of the home of a senior Hamas politician.

Three people also died today in a strike on a vehicle in Gaza. Hamas is vowing what it calls an “earthquake” of a response. Israel says leading Hamas figures who order rocket attacks from Gaza could become targets for military strikes. It says this would include the Hamas prime minister and the group’s number two in exile in Damascus.
