A police officer who escaped from kidnappers in Columbia has said he was held with former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt. Jhon Frank Pinchao fled his captors after eight years, spending over 2 weeks on the run in the Amazon Jungle. Pinchao told a news conference three American military contractors were also being held hostage by FARC – a communist guerrilla movement – after going missing in February 2003. Betancourt was captured by FARC on February 23rd 2002, as the anti-corruption congresswoman campaigned for president in the south of the country.
