Tony Blair carefully chose the stage on which to bow out of leading his country and party; in the place where he has been elected to Parliament for the last 25 years, and where he enjoys almost folk hero status. His resignation speech left hardly a dry eye in the house. He will quit Downing Street for the last time on June 27th.
Blair’s request for forgiveness for any mistakes was a rare admission of fallibility from the soon-to-be ex-Prime Minister, and it is too soon to tell if posterity will be as kind to him as this audience. It should not be forgotten he leaves office still relatively young. We may not have seen the last of Tony Blair just yet.
