Blair resignation date expected on Thursday

world news

It is reported Tony Blair will announce on Thursday a date for his resignation as British Prime Minister. It is widely expected he will leave after a seven-week Labour party leadership contest. The man who has been in charge of the country’s finances, Gordon Brown, is almost certain to become the new Prime Minister.

Blair will leave office after 10 years in power with mixed legacies. This week he saw the return of a power-sharing assembly in Northern Ireland. But his popularity plummeted over the war in Iraq and he has had to deal with some political scandals. His party also performed badly in local elections last week.
