Internal report said to criticise World Bank head

The embattled World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz is expected to learn his fate on Friday after a meeting of the bank’s board. News agencies report that an internal panel has found there was a conflict of interest in the promotion and pay rise for his girlfriend at the bank. Rules are also said to have been broken. One of his top aides Kevin Kellems resigned yesterday saying it was now difficult to do his job.

The aide worked with Wolfwowitz when he was US deputy defence secretary. Wolfowitz has vowed he will not resign over the controversy surrounding Shaha Riza, a Middle East expert. He has been under fire ever since it became known that she was transferred to the US state department.
