Palestinian gunmen attack UN school sports day

A UN run school in Gaza has been attacked by Palestinian Islamist gunmen over what they called “immoral values”.

The assailants, believed to be Muslim extremists, hurled grenades at the school in apparent anger over the participation of boys and girls in a mixed sports day event.

One person was killed and six others injured.

The dead victim was later identified as a bodyguard of a lawmaker from President Mahmoud Abbas’s secular Fatah faction.

A vehicle belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency was also attacked and destroyed.
