Fellow journalists in Gaza call for Johnston's release

Journalists on both sides of the Erez crossing in Israel and Gaza have been demonstrating in solidarity with captured BBC journalist Alan Johnston.

Simon Mc Gregor is chairman of the foreign press association:

“We need to be able to cover this important part of the story and to understand what’s going on and to tell its people’s stories. We need these kidnappings to stop but first we must have Alan Johnston back safe and sound today.”

Johnston was kidnapped in the Gaza Strip on March 12. He has been held captive longer than any other foreign journalists seized in Gaza.

Reports by an armed group that it had killed him 10 days ago have been denied by the Palestinian Authority which says its is fighting for his release.
