Iran has released the 15 British sailors it has been holding for more than two weeks. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he was releasing the 14 men and one woman because it was the prophet’s birthday. The captured sailors are said to have “screamed with joy” when they heard the news while watching the Presiden’t press conference live on Iranian TV. Within an hour of the announcement at least three of the service personnel were shown greeting the President, outside the Presidential Palace. He even joked with one of the sailors, asking if he had enjoyed his compulsory trip to Iran. All 15 are due to leave Tehran tomorrow on a flight back to London.
