U2 frontman Bono receives honorary knighthood

Irish rock star Bono has received an honorary British knighthood in recognition of services to the music industry and for his humanitarian work. The U2 frontman told the British ambassador there was no need to kneel and said accepting the award was no sell out: “U2 had more interesting enemies than the establishment. For us it was always the established order of things that we fought against.”

The Dublin-born singer has won praise for his campaigns for debt relief for the world’s poorest countries but faced accusations of hypocrisy last year when he moved his publishing organisation to the Netherlands to avoid paying taxes.
