EU intervenes in British sailor capture

The EU Foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, has added his voice to calls to free the British service personnel being held by Iran. Solana says he has also personally told the Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, that their detention is “unacceptable”.

Speaking in Brussels, after returning from the Arab Summit, Solana said he hopes, in the next few days and weeks, the problem of the British sailors and marines will be resolved, and that talks can also start on a solution to the nuclear row between Iran and the UN. Solana emphasized that there is no other route except negotiation, and that a way back to constructive talks has to be found.
