Al Qaeda suspect transferred to Guantanamo

The US says a man wanted in connection with planning two terror attacks in Kenya five years ago has been transferred to its military prison at Guantanamo Bay. More than a dozen people died in a suicide bomb attack on a Mombasa Hotel in 2002, while shortly afterwards an Israeli airliner carrying 271 people narrowly escaped being hit by a missile on take off.

The Pentagon identified the man as Abdul Malik and said he had admitted a role in the attacks. Malik is the first detainee to be sent to Guantanamo since last September when 14 Al Qaeda suspects arrived from secret CIA prisons overseas.
