Al Qaeda suspect admits Pearl killing says US

It is being reported a top al Qaeda suspect has admitted beheading US journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002. The Wall Street Journal reporter was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan that year. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed allegedly claimed responsibility for the killing during a hearing at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

It is also claimed he confessed to plotting the September 11th attacks, and to taking part in planning the 2002 Bali bombings. Mohammed had long been considered a prime suspect in the Pearl case, but his confession has been met with scepticism by some. Critics of the interrogations methods – which allegedly include torture – and of the fact that independent observers are not allowed during hearings have dismissed the suspect’s claims.
