Market bomb kills 40 in Habaniya, W. Iraq

At least 40 people, among them women and children, have been killed in a bomb attack near a Sunni mosque in the Iraqi town of Habaniya. A fuel tanker rigged with explosives was driven into a market place. 64 people were also injured.

Habaniya is in the province of Anbar where US forces are battling Sunni insurgents. Meanwhile, US forces have bombed terrorist positions in the south-west of Baghdad. A US military spokesman said the operations were being carried out in coordination with Iraqi forces. At least 20 loud explosions were heard after night fell.
