Former Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi has apologized to his wife for his behaviour with other women. It comes after his wife, the former actress Veronica Lario, sent a letter to the newspaper La Repubblica calling on him to express public regret for offending her and the couple’s children. The newspaper published the letter on its front page. At the end of a gala evening shown on TV recently, the 70-year-old was heard to make provocative remarks to an Italian woman politician who is noted for her looks.
At the same time a magazine came out with a Berlusconi interview in which he praised his wife for her patience and understanding. The magazine editor Maria Latella wrote the article: “Berlusconi said she’s a unique woman, I fell in love at first sight and it’s been a great passion.”
Although she kept a low profile when her husband was prime minister, Mrs Berlusconi was seen on major state occasions. Her husband already had a reputation for making outrageous remarks about women during his travels as head of government.
