Violence has continued in Gaza, in spite of planned peace talks between rival Palestinian factions in the territory. A senior security officer of the Fatah party loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, was shot dead when gunmen ambushed his car in Gaza city.
Earlier, an activist of the rival Hamas party was killed in the city. A third man died after a clash at Khan Younis, bringing the death toll in the latest round of attacks to 32. There has also been a spate of abductions affecting members of both factions. Fatah as well as the Hamas party of prime minister Ismail Haniyeh have agreed to peace talks proposed by Saudi Arabia, but so far no date has been set for the meeting.
